COW MILKING
CONTEST AT GREEN COUNTY CHEESE DAYS FESTIVAL
Four humans. Four bovines. Four minutes. One bucket. The “udderly”
entertaining Green County Cheese Days Cow Milking Contest
is back by popular demand!
The festival is currently seeking teams to show their skills
at using the time-honored “pull and squirt” method
to see how much milk they can get into their pails in the
four-minute time limit.
The contest also offers festival-goers an up close and personal
opportunity to meet some friendly bovines who are usually
seen at a distance while grazing the rolling hills of Green
County. Representatives from various dairy breeds (Holstein,
Brown Swiss, Jersey, and Guernsey) will be selected to make
the trip to the big city to be the stars of the show for the
competition taking place on Saturday, September 18 at 1 pm.
Categories for the teams include: Experienced Milkers (Green
County FFA, FFA Alumni, and Farmers), “Wheel of Swiss”
Festival Sponsors, Dignitaries and Festival Royalty, Green
County Businesses or Communities, Green County Schools, and
a limited number of Open Teams (form your own group). Following
the team competition, anyone interested in taking a turn can
sign up starting at noon and will be given a ticket for the
lottery drawing. The number of people who will be allowed
to participate depends on the amount of time remaining for
the contest.
For group registrations, you are invited to assemble your
own team of four (to represent your school, club, business,
or group) – with each team member milking a cow for
one minute. Groups are invited to show team spirit by wearing
shirts or costumes representing their organization –
this is a great opportunity to publicize your group or business.
Cheerleaders are welcome!
All participants receive coupons for the Cheese Tent, and
winners receive awards and bragging rights.
To register a team, contact the Cheese Days office at 608.325.7771,
or send an email to cheesedays@tds.net. We will need your
group name, individual team member names, and the phone number
to contact your team captain.
