EAGLE SCOUT REMODELS CHEESE DAYS FLOAT
Throughout the years, Green County Cheese Days ambassadors
have collectively logged thousands of hours promoting the
festival by appearing in parades throughout the region, often
riding on a unique Swiss Chalet style float originally built
by Ron Rufener.
In 2006, Sue Buetzer, the committee chair for
“Ambassador and Parade Appearances,” noted that
the float was looking a bit worn. It had already been repainted
several times, and the carpeting had also been replaced at
least once.
Buetzer suggested that perhaps the local boy
scouts might be interested in remodeling the float. Monroe
Troop 115 stepped up to help, with Randy Hasler taking on
the project to complete the requirements for the Eagle Scout
award.
Under the direction of Scout Master Ed Kennison,
Hasler cleaned and painted the entire float, and pulled off
the old carpeting to replace with new. An engraved plate will
be installed on the float to recognize their contributions.
